FUT (STRIP) HAIR TRANSPLANT SURGERY

What is an FUT (Strip) Hair Transplant?

Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT), also known as the "strip method," is a popular hair restoration technique used to treat hair loss. During an FUT procedure, a thin strip of scalp containing healthy hair follicles is removed from the donor area — typically the back or sides of the head — and then carefully dissected into individual grafts. These grafts are then transplanted into areas experiencing thinning or baldness to create a natural, fuller head of hair.

FUT is a well-established technique and has been a trusted method in hair transplantation for many years, offering excellent results for suitable candidates.

How Does the FUT Procedure Work?

Strip Harvesting

  • A narrow strip of scalp is surgically removed from the donor area. The area is then carefully stitched to minimise scarring.

Graft Dissection

  • Under a microscope, the strip is dissected into thousands of tiny follicular units — each containing one to four hairs — by a team of skilled technicians.

Recipient Site Creation

  • Small incisions are made in the thinning or balding areas to place the grafts in a natural growth pattern.

Graft Placement

  • The prepared follicular units are meticulously implanted into the recipient sites, ensuring natural-looking density and direction.

Benefits of FUT Hair Transplantation

  • High Graft Yield: FUT often provides a larger number of grafts in one session, making it ideal for those needing significant coverage.

  • Can be done without shaving the donor area: This makes FUT hair transplant especially useful in those with long hair

What to Expect After FUT Surgery

  • Recovery: Initial healing takes about 10-14 days. Some mild discomfort, swelling, or tightness in the donor area is normal.

  • Scar: A thin linear scar will remain at the donor site, typically concealed under surrounding hair.

Is FUT Right for You?

FUT is a suitable option for many patients, particularly those:

  • Experiencing advanced hair loss

  • Seeking maximum graft numbers in a single session

  • Comfortable with the possibility of a small linear scar

  • Prefer not to cut the donor hair
